I have been busy recently upcycling a bureau and thought it was the perfect time to show it on the blog. so here is what happened when my Sister and I were asked to style and decorate a guest bedroom for Laura Ashley, in which you can see the big reveal by clicking the link, we both jumped at the chance. It was the perfect opportunity to create together, photograph and upcycle that overdue family heirloom which would make the perfect writing desk. A Vintage upcycled Bureau.
My sister did most of the work but I did source these gorgeous drawer pulls to enhance the Bureau’s finished effect! We wanted to obtain a vintage look and my sister did the bulk of the work including sanding down the bureau before painting it. We agreed to just give the Bureau one coat of paint. I really like the shabby look and feel. Our upcycled bureau had really come together.
The Bureau is tall with ample storage space. It has a pull-down hatch which is a great to store writing materials inside and use as a desk. The inside of the Bureau is painted grey and we plan to line it with laminated liners using the Josette style wallpaper left over from our project.
The upcycled bureau sits in the guest bedroom along with a small plush velvet grey bench. The bench has studded crystal buttons which I think really adds a little touch of glamour. For future guests, we provided a box of toiletries, clean towels and of course a copy of our wifi code just for convenience.
I was really impressed with the transformation and when we screwed on the Josette ceramic drawer pulls together, the bureau just came alive! We placed a vase containing some pink tulips on top using a set of three hanging mirrors as place mats.
Have you upcycled anything recently or even tried your hand at a bedroom make over?
