Easy world book day idea using free printables
On Thursday the nation will celebrate world book day. If like me, you are a parent of school-age children then I am sure there has been much debate as to which character to attend school as. Read on for advice on my easy book day idea
So which book does my child like to read best?
Room on the broom
My child loves a varied selection of books by Julia Donaldson. When she announced that she wanted to dress as a witch for world book day, I was thrilled. Nice and easy! We already had a witches costume and an old broom. I just had to figure out a way to involve the other characters into her costume! It was then that I decided to use free printables that I had found on the internet. An easy costume idea for word book day using printables.
I found my free printables online and let Olivia check off all the characters. We have a wireless printer and so she was happy just to go ahead and choose the images she requested and print them out. Olivia stuck the paper images to card and I cut around the shapes. I was sure to leave a cardboard tab at the bottom of each image to enable room for fixing the characters on to the broom!
” The witch and her cat fly happily over forests, rivers and mountains on their broomstick until a stormy wind blows away the witch’s hat, bow and wand. They are retrieved by a dog, a bird and a frog, and each animal asks for a ride on the broom. They climb on, one after the next, until the broom is so heavy that it snaps in two! What will happen next as they tumble into a bog and meet a greedy dragon? ”
We used light weight card and a hot glue gun to attach the characters to the broom stick. All I need to do now is dig out the cauldron!
Enjoy World book day everyone. Will your kids be taking part?
