For me apart from my family it has to be flowers. I have always loved flowers and my Husband buys me a bunch every few weeks of carefully chosen blooms. He has done this ever since we moved in together, it’s our thing, special and meaningful. He used to bring me my favorites but now he has gotten exceptionally good at going into the florists and having a few varieties put together for me.
Flowers have been a big part of my life this year. We got married at Christmas and then less than a month later I lost my Mummy to cancer. I chose the flowers for both ceremonies.
So how do you choose a flower that is both sincere and heartfelt? How can you use a flower to celebrate a loved one’s life during such a hard time? It’s impossible because you are grieving and suffering pain along with the grey cloud that overhangs your mind whilst dealing with funeral arrangements, readings and announcements. And that is exactly why using an online florist to arrange your display for you can take some of the burden off of arranging a funeral service.
I lost my own Mum earlier this year and found it very difficult to arrange her service. I knew she loved flowers but I was unsure of funeral etiquette and which displays were appropriate for a funeral. Of course you must go with whatever your loved ones wishes were or your choice of flowers that make your heart feel whole but knowing where to look for an example will make the process a tiny bit easier.
Our Mother was a traditional lady born in the Forties and we made sure she had a traditional send off with her favorite flowers in her favorite colors.
We chose casket flowers in the colors of purple and yellow and of course we had the floral lettering that spelt mum.
I mentioned I was married a few weeks earlier and we used a purple orchid for my Mother as a button hole.
We also had the same flower used within her casket lettering.
A florist will work with you to provide the flowers you request but if you are unsure of examples you can gather some information for what funeral flower displays look like here.
There is one particular flower that I have in my garden in tribute to my Mum and it is a rose called Mum in a Million. It is a beautiful full fragranced pink rose and has a heartwarming poem attached to its branch. I thought I would share it with you.
Nobody can ever prepare you for loss and the grief that comes with it.
I have found sanctuary in my garden being amongst flowers in the sunshine and if you have experienced loss of a loved one please accept my sympathies and I truly wish for you to find comfort in doing something you enjoy.
