Due to recovering from a small operation this month i was worried that the Easter holidays were going to be a boring drag for my little one and we were all going to end up stuck in doors. Well lucky for us friends and family came to the rescue. With so many spontaneous days cropping up i was also thrilled that Mr Kipling had sent us three boxes of cakes. Three boxes were no where near enough but I had, as usual a secret stash of some limited edition Easter French fancies and my Hubby’s favorite Viennese whirls! Everybody knows there is always a box of Mr Ks cakes in my cupboard.
I really do not think there is a family that loves cake more than mine. We literally arrange family outings, just to eat cake. Our Two year old takes the term afternoon tea very seriously as her Dad has made that a daily bonding priority from the day she could manage solid foods! The lemon slices were always her favorite until recently. Olivia now loves bake well tarts. Her Dad adores cake and his parents are the same. They introduced afternoon tea to him!
We paid thousands to cruise on the infamous Queen Victoria Cunard – just to eat cake!
Every occasion is a cake occasion. And no we are not the size of houses. We are actually a very healthy family. Well balanced diets and always out and about. We just reward ourselves with cake!!!
There is just one problem. I cannot bake to save my life. So thank you Mr Kipling for all the times you have rescued my Mummy dignity at birthday parties, coffee dates and of course tea time. Looking back now I really do not know how I could of ever coped without your fine baking skills. Mothers meetings and play dates really would be a disaster!
So this Easter turned out far better than expected. I spent good quality time with my sisters and Olivia’s cousins. We took short gentle walks to the park with the kids and had a lovely picnic. With cakes.
I had a wonderful girly day with my Daughter and we had a tea party with my finest china set. And ate cake.
We had friends over for play dates in the Garden and took rides in the pull along wagon, planted flower seeds and watched the little ones play hide and seek whilst they were dressed in princess and fairy gowns. Then had a well deserved cuppa and cakes with the kiddies!!
And a big chunk of my family gathered together for my Mums birthday. We had a great meal at a nice restaurant and celebrated well. The best bit was going back to my Aunties house afterwards for ….. Cake!
I am so lucky and blessed to have so many fantastic family and friends in my life. Life is good but life is definitely #Betterwithcake.
