A Lunch Box Challenge

August 9, 2016 by Mary Louise 2 Comments

When Olivia’s new lunchbox arrived in the post i was overwhelmed with an emotion of happiness from a childhood memory that i was instantly reminded of.
I remember when i was at school in the late 80s and we all had sturdy square lunchboxes with our names on the bottom. Mine was a pale shade of well used pink with a faded my little pony picture on the front. Most people had the same, with the occasional lunchbox that stood out.

Now Olivia has a brand new box for the start of term at her new school in September. It was sent from Hartley’s and is a yellow box that she has decorated herself and carefully placed her name on in stickers. There was also two pots of sugar fee jelly inside which made a really nice treat to take with us camping the following day (the box is deep enough for a ice pack too) Yellow is our favorite color and i have a feeling she will not be losing her lunch box among the mountain of other lunch bags at school! read more

Travel Tales Of Madeira

Madeira is the pinnacle of relaxation and with its laid back pace of life along with the scent of a fresh aroma in the air from the islands many flower species, there really is no other island that compares for me.

We have been a handful of times and only once without our Daughter. On that particular visit we took a tour invitation to the church of Nossa Senhora Do Monte. (Lady of our mountain). Access is granted by climbing steep slopes and steps so this is by no means a place to visit for the less abled. But something touched me about this particular church and i felt at peace there. You are able to visit even when a service is in action and it was amazing to see the locals praying and their way of life. So friendly and welcoming. I paid my respect also by stopping for a prayer and making a small donation. There is also a small shop where you can purchase rosary beads to take away with you. That evening back on our cruise ship our Daughter was conceived! So for future visits to Madeira our baby would be joining us. Overtime i took her back to this particular church including on our last visit 4 months ago where we lit some candles together and bought more rosary beads to pray with. read more

Top Five Gift Ideas For A Dinner Party Host

December 22, 2015 by Mary Louise Leave a Comment

We have held many dinners and parties in our house and gathering friends or family or both around the dinner table with good home made food in cosy surroundings really is the best medicine for life.
As a guest to many occasions also I used to always find myself pondering over dinner etiquette and not wanting to turn up to a friends house empty handed.
Of course the meal is always catered for by the host and unless you are asked to bring something in particular then a main course is definitely out of the question for a gift. read more
