Freshly baked fruit pies and flour strewn across wooden work benches add to the visual list of Christmas decor for a country home. Today in my post, I am sharing with you traditional decoration ideas and money saving alternatives towards making your Christmas merrier.
Christmas decorations do not need to be expensive and making them is a craft that can be enjoyed by the whole family. I adore paper chains and think this traditional decoration looks adorable pinned from ceilings, around window frames or just simply placed upon a shelf. Paper chains can be made with plain paper, glittered card or even recycled pages from magazines. Paper chains can be really fun to put together and are more festive than you may think. I once wrapped paper chains around my Christmas tree. My Daughter had painted them in green and red at preschool and I wanted to display them with the other Christmas trinkets.
A reel of red ribbon can be used for a hundred decor ideas. I love to use ribbon for tying parcels, threading through paper chains and even tying pretty bows on my Christmas tree. The red ribbon looks glorious tied around cutlery as a table setting on Christmas day too.
Holly leaves are also inexpensive or even a free decoration. Lucky for us, we have a holly bush in our garden and can use pickings for table places throughout December. Go for a walk through your neighbourhood and make a note to look out for a holly bush. You will be surprised at how popular they are. Ask a neighbour kindly if you can take a few snippings. Holly will last a long time.
Farmers prepare hedges this time of year so if you live in the countryside then keep an eye out for scattered holly leaves on the ground.
So how do we fill the house with the sweet scent of christmas whilst deciding on Christmas decor for a country home?
We bake batches of apple turnovers, just small mini bites that are suitable for freezing and easy to store amongst the Christmas food in the back of the freezer. Our filling is made with baked apple, brown sugar and warming cinnamon. Every time we take a batch of apple bites from storage to bake, our house immediately fills with the aroma of baking.
I love looking for new ideas so if you have found any other Christmas decor articles then please share with me below.
Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day
