What are The benefits of using a garden to entertain? Well for one there are amazing health benefits but a garden can also be used as a space to create. This blog is my garden portfolio and a place to store my photographs and a visual diary of the beautiful plants that I grow. If you love styling then you will also find some great table setting ideas if you delve a little further into recent posts. Stay a while and enjoy.
The flower patches in my garden are used for many reasons. To feed my soul when I need a break, to grow beautiful flowers for use in the home or for entertaining friends and family. The colour explosion amongst the green grass is the perfect Centrepiece and a wonderful setting to socialise. Having a special area in my garden fills me with reward as I know it is a homemade place where I can either work together with my family or just take time out to admire the views.
I adore eating with my loved ones around the cut flower patches, throwing a fresh white linen tablecloth over the wooden outdoor bench and laying pretty table settings. The borders are lit with solar lights which means the flowers are still visible at dusk. Sometimes we just pull out the garden chairs from the shed and place them in front of my flowers to drink tea with the ladies from the village. We have a good catch up and enjoy each other’s company right here in my own home.
Gardening is a great form of exercise and just 20 mins outdoors every day can lead to a healthier mind and body. The NHS website has tons of information and states some really interesting facts which I have included below.
“Previous generations were active more naturally through work and manual labour, but today we have to find ways of integrating activity into our daily lives,” says Dr Cavill.
Whether it’s limiting the time babies spend strapped in their buggies, or encouraging adults to stand up and move frequently, people of all ages need to reduce their sedentary behaviour.
“This means that each of us needs to think about increasing the types of activities that suit our lifestyle and can easily be included in our day,” says Dr Cavill.
Even during the winter months, I feel as if I still get enough exercise from the garden. There is always something to do or prepare and quite a lot of heavy lifting. I really don’t mind as it gives me a full body workout and keeps me fit as well as sane! My garden is my “go to” sanctuary and I would spend every day out there in the winter if I needed to. Nothing like a bit of fresh air to clear away the cobwebs.
During the spring summer and sometimes Autumn months, I often walk around my garden at 6 am or just before night falls. I like to see how my plants are growing and if anything has bloomed over night or during that day. We have plenty of furniture handy and ready for entertaining but I want to add a seat to my garden. A permanent bench for in between those flower patches and so I can sit and admire my creative spirit and think about my next sowing season. Also, a place to switch off and relax. I really like this Garden love seat for placing in between my two cut flower patches. I really like this bench as it an ideal seat to share and made from hardwood timber, topped with an oil finish.
I hope you enjoyed my post today and admiring some past images from my garden. I also hope this article will inspire you to use a small space in your home or green to take time out, exercise and practice self-care. Thanks for stopping by and please let me know in the comments below what you are growing in your garden this month?
