Alternative Advent calendars are becoming more popular at Christmas time. This simple idea of wrapping books to read before bedtime is an absolute must for any parent wishing to avoid the sugar hit that modern advent calendars have introduced.
A few years ago i blogged about a book advent calendar which I had made for my Daughter’s first Christmas.
A few special Christmas’s on and we are over the baby books and have replaced them for Christmas books that are more suitable for her age range. I have also gained two beautiful God Daughters and have wrapped books for them too this year. I hope they will keep them and read them for many years to come.
Suprisingly, after organising our book collection I noticed that Olivia had a really good collection of Christmas books and I could just pull together the missing numbers from scouting our local charity shops to make a full pile of 25 books.
Each year after Christmas I pack away the books in a safe place and have them ready to use again, One year later.
I used bows and number stickers to decorate my God Daughter’s books, wrapped in traditional parcel paper.
For my Daughter’s advent books i used count down stickers from Amazon UK
I hope you enjoyed my images and took inspiration from my idea, the gift of reading is a gift that lasts forever. I would deprive my child of chocolate but i would never deprive her of a book!
