We dine and entertain alfresco throughout the summer months and I am always seeking garden party event and styling ideas. Read on for inspiration and Ideas towards your next social gathering.
Hire an entertainer
There is always a gap in the social time line at events and only so much socialising one can do before their jaw starts to hurt. Bring your guests together with a magician. A magician will entertain and humour small groups whilst giving the host a chance to smooth out last minute preparations. Taking the opportunity to enjoy the display yourself is always a welcoming suggestion also.
Using your garden as a scene setter is no excuse to ditch the flowers. Display bold flowers in the middle of tables to add color, elegance and aroma. Bare tables are not a good look.
The first item to be put into your guests hand is a drink. I love to serve champagne and have the bottles within easy reach on ice. You could set up a mini mimosa area for guests to enjoy a champagne cocktail? We did this at our wedding and the bar proved extremely popular. Maybe have a bar tender to serve the champagne otherwise your guests could be left tipsy!!
Music provides an ambience to any event and having it play discreetly in the background causing minimal fuss will add a touch of elegance to your party. As the sun sets and the guests start to relax then you could introduce a more informal approach by turning up the volume and dancing the night away. We have a small ipod speaker which is sufficient for our outdoor entertainment space. In the past we have hired outdoor speakers for bigger events through our local radio station. Be sure to have outdoor power or accessible plug sockets.
My favourite planning of all is how I am going to style my party. I am huge fan of fans! You can place them, hang them, dangle them even. Fans come in an array of colors and I usually purchase mine from either home sense or TK Maxx.
