This year has mainly been about baby showers! Friends and family are welcoming new arrivals into the world and although we have had an influx of Girls i am really excited to have been asked to style a close friends baby shower. And she is due a boy, finally!!!!!
September is a stunning time of year for roses and the bushes in my rose garden are providing me with their third set of fresh blooms. I am literally invaded with roses which means i can display them through out the house, share them with friends and use them to style events and photographs.
Of course i have lashings of pink blooms, absolutely no blue obviously… but lucky for me i do have yellow. But in a new age of equal gender and flexibility i feel the blue can be added in so many other ways.
Here is how i will be styling this months baby shower.
I will be using plant stands as they are sturdy for styling and offer visual layering which will bulk out my display a little. I have a selection of garden stands all in white. I have collected them over the years from places such as TK Maxx, Homesense and garden centers. I have chosen to use a three tier plant stand as i know that this particular stand is robust and sturdy. The detail of the stand means that i am able to thread flower stems around the sides leaving the plant tops clear for displaying cake stands. Baby showers are mostly about cake you will agree.
You can see the sides in this image.
Unfortunately whilst photographing my test run i did not have any photo worthy cakes but i did find some meringues and displayed them laden with fresh fruit. I really liked this touch and for a baby Boy’s shower i would fill with darker fruits such as blueberries and blackberries.
Of course if you were serving savories you could use herbs among the flowers such as Rosemary or mint. Herbs grow all year round and add greenery and aroma to displays.
FYI you do not have to use roses, you can use anything floral depending on the season but hardy , long stems are a must for stability. Even if you have a range of fake flowers your arrangement will still look as good.
After fixing all your flowers in place you should end up with covered tiers and hardly any gaps. go ahead and fill every opening until your hearts content.
