In The Garden – May

May 22, 2016 by Mary Louise 8 Comments

may garden favs

So much has grown this month and at one point my garden became a little too much too manage. The grass had over grown, the gladioli were sprouting and the mint spreading like wildfire. My sweet peas which i had been growing from seed and pruning gratefully for weeks were waiting to be potted and the hanging baskets needed a good empty an clean ready for a flourish of color to see us through the summer.

So i planted my sweet peas after putting together a very cool play arch for my Daughter. I hope the peas will grow and provide her with a playful hide from the sun during the hotter months. When they grow a little taller i will post a report but at the moment they seem to be… well doing not a lot. Some of them have started to turn white and i am not sure what i could be doing wrong. They have enough water and are being grown in an ideal part of the garden. Advice welcome!

The sun is still a shade shy so i have ditched the winter fleece and opt for a warm cardigan instead. Sometimes i like to wear a bright cheery color and i hope you like my inspo above from Dunedin Cashmere

I had some left over wild flower seeds from which i got online and have been planting them in matching terracotta pots left over from last summer. We are due to have a wedding celebration in the garden in June and i am hoping the flowers will sprout in time to add a bit of color to walk ways and seating areas.
I have various planters and pots in which i have filled with different seeds. I like the idea of being able to produce a versatile flower garden.

There is still a great list of jobs to do in my garden this week. The forget me nots are really spreading now so i shall have to get them under control sooner rather than later. My clematis climber has started to flower and looks absolutely stunning. It is one year old this month and the time has come where it has grown enough to finally tame its branches and provide a stunning backdrop in the driveway. And this morning i just noticed that the first roses of the year have bloomed, two yellow roses. Mummy’s favorite color.

Have you had time to get out in the garden this week and what have you noticed flowering?

I really need to cut the grass but it is so wet at the moment and more rain means it grows even taller! I love the straw hat and I’ve been looking for a suitable one for the garden.

I’m totally the opposite of green fingered so I admire anyone who can successfully grow a plant to flower! Well done.

My sweet peas aren’t doing much either, I think I will buy some plant food? And try and water them more, although the weather is doing that for me today!

We are away at the moment and I am dreading what we come back to. Our sweet peas were terrible before we left!

We are prepping the garden for a patio at the moment so it looks like a mud bath
