We have recently moved house and we really love our new garden. It is spacious and enclosed and leaves plenty of room for exploring.
We love to spend time outdoors so come wind, rain or shine you can guarantee to find us in the garden. We had been given a blank canvas to play with and our garden consisted of a compost pit and a small plastic shed. We invested in a wooden shed to store our lawn mower but Olivia does not have any outdoor toys so i had to put my thinking cap on and make our own adventures.
Here are some of the things we love to do in our garden.
Look for fairies.
I have convinced our Three year old that we have fairies hidden in our garden. She loves searching under sticks and behind flowers in hope that she will find one! We actually do have fairies living inside our tree and they even have a little entrance.
Build a sandpit.
We had lots of left over firewood/logs from the winter and a piece of tarpaulin in the shed. After seeing bags of sand on offer at our local garden center i thought i would whip together a quick play area for Olivia and her bucket and spade. You can follow my tutorial here….
Garden wagon rides.
Under adult supervision of course. Our gardening trolley is great for pulling Olivia around the garden. Because it is a fun activity she can be involved in maintaining the grounds also. Sometimes we collect fallen sticks from the trees or piles of grass from the lawn after it has been cut.
Bubbles and water can keep a child entertained for hours. A simple washing up bowl would be suffice. My Daughter has a bit of an obsession with adding stones from our gravel drive way but i recommend throwing a few plastic bottles in there for maximum enjoyment!!
We are desperate to add a bit of color to our lovely green garden and have started to plant some bulbs. Earlier in the year Olivia and i made a great patch for a wild flower garden. My Daughter threw in the seeds whilst i did the digging and we selected flowers that will attract butterflies and bees. They are due to flower in July – the month of her birthday and will be the perfect back drop for her birthday party in the garden.
