Our Daughter Olivia is farm mad and we wanted to take her somewhere special for her second birthday. We chose Coombe Mill – a family run farm with animals and play areas situated in the lovely little village of St Breward, Cornwall.
Tree Roots was our choice of accommodation. The biggest and newest property on the farm that sleeps ten plus two babies. With all the facilities we needed including a utility room and hot tub, we invited a few family members to enjoy Olivia’s birthday with us.
Two families with a brood of kids could easily share Tree Roots for a week. Both king size rooms have en suites and there is a further family bathroom along with a downstairs toilet/cloakroom.
For a whole week we enjoyed modern luxurious living with a twist of country thrown in. My favorite feature in the property itself is the 12 seater dining table placed in the kitchen looking out through floor to ceiling sliding doors unto rolling countryside. We made a lot of memories around this table, eating and chatting whilst cooking together. Playing board games and blowing out candles on the birthday cake!
All utensils are provided in the property and there is a playroom for kids with two baskets of toys and comfy beanbags. The children also have their own TV and DVD player. In the garden there is a further picnic table. A playhouse and the hot tub which is easy and straightforward to use. Around the side of the house is a barbecuing area and swing ball!
Tree Roots is a self catering cottage therefore as season travelers we were sure to pack everything we would be needing for the week. Food. Cleaning products, toilet paper and towels. There is a nice shop close by for essentials but requires a car to get there. Reception also has some cleaning goods and food items run on an honesty system.
The fun bit….
The farm itself is bustling full of activities for toddlers and children. At 9am every morning children and adults are invited to join Farmer Nick on the feed run. Throughout the week every child will have the opportunity to drive the tractor. Now the attribute that I love about Coombe mill is the fact that Olivia could really get up close and personal with the animals. It did not matter if we missed the times of the feed run. Guests are invited to visit the animals whenever they like! We spent many mornings feeding our scraps to the pigs, afternoons lazing with the rabbits and evenings saying good night to the goats!
I really enjoyed our time at Coombe Mill as a mum because i knew my Daughter could roam free in a safe environment. I love the fact that i could let her spend a week in comfy clothes and her wellies, doing whatever she pleased! We jumped in puddles, stomped in mud and explored the farm everyday.
Olivia had an amazing birthday week with all of her favorite people under one roof!
My Sister printed a photo book displaying lots of happy pictures that she took that week and i know Olivia enjoyed herself because she REALLY looks at this book and stares at the images. She remembers lots and especially enjoyed her birthday morning on the feed run. Not only did she find an egg that one of the resident chickens had laid but she also enjoyed a ride on Farmer Nicks tractor.
Every time we see a tractor now she mentions farmer Nick!
Memorable holidays like this are priceless.
