We decided to invite family and friends to share our daughters 1st Birthday with us. The good old English weather was on our side so a garden party was definitely the way to go.
Delicious Daddy fixed up the garden ready for a fun filled day. He put up a marquee to shelter the children from the sun and glossed over the garden furniture for the adults to sit and enjoy food and drinks.
We decorated with balloons and paper chains and put up a banner outside the front of the house.
Olivia just recently won a whole bunch of toys from #KidsGrowWild challenge for my money supermarket and they arrived in time for her big day. Everyone helped beforehand to make sure the toys were built and ready to be used. We had a great selection including a Little Tikes swing and slide, Chad Valley water play, coupe car and trailer and a paddling pool. The water toys were used the most as luckily all the kiddies bought their cosies! But I had been prepared and put out a pack of swim nappies and sun lotion just in case any way!
Olivia also had lots of rides on her Smartrike. She is a baby ambassador for smartrike and was sent one to test for her 1st birthday. What a fantastic present and the other babies loved it too! They have all put one on their birthday lists. So keep an eye out for our first review soon!
Food. Nom Nom food. We love to cook in our house as you can tell from our little recipe section. It was also Delicious Daddies birthday a week before Olivia’s so we wanted to make him feel special also. I cooked a few of his favourite dishes to be served up. We had a BBQ and spent the evening prior party making homemade beef and lamb mince patties. We had sausages for the BBQ also. Chicken drumsticks marinated in a bbq seasoning, corn cob and jacket potatoes. I served mini ramekins of mac N cheese with bacon and nutmeg and made a big pot of lamb tagine. We love Moroccan food! I also cooked up some diced chicken served with mini pitta and a homemade mint dressing. Delicious Daddy is the best bbqer so naturally he was in charge of that station. Everybody really enjoyed the food and had a real feast!
On Olivia’s menu I had to serve baby friendly foods. So the children had a platter of fresh ham finger sandwiches without crusts! Delicious Daddy prepared fruit kebabs using chunks of watermelon, melon, strawberries, pineapple and kiwi. We made plenty of these and refrigerated for a few hours. They were so refreshing! Instead of using standard skewers I purchased some child friendly ones from hobby craft. Longer than lollipop sticks but just as blunt!
I added some cucumber sticks to the sandwich tray also.
On the sweet tray we had some homemade mini chocolate cupcakes made lovingly by my niece. A selection of biscuits and some yoghurt covered raisins.
I did not book any entertainment for the day as we had a big gathering of family and friends attend so everyone mingled with each other with music playing in the background. However I wanted to produce something special for Olivia to look back on her 1st birthday and see what it was like. Our theme was butterflies so whilst I was buying kebab sticks in Hobby craft I came across some foam butterflies and felt tip pens. We passed these around at the party and children decorated them with pictures and stickers. The adults each wrote a special message for our precious girl. They were hung from branches of our favourite tree at the rear of the garden. Olivia will keep these in her memory box For.EV…ER! As long as the sun stays out I will leave the butterflies to hang and sway in the breeze.
At the end of our perfect day we washed and dressed our daughter and put her to bed. She was ever so tired.
Delicious Daddy and I then sat by the Butterfly tree and toasted our greatest achievement Olivia Alice on her first birthday with a bottle of champagne.
